My New Electric Tooth Brush

By FutureNestEgg | August 14, 2009

This month I had to make an expensive trip to my dentist – my last visit to her office was three years ago – just before my son was born. So this trip was long overdue. I had my teeth cleaned and then the dentist gave me some ‘tough love’. There was no problem with my teeth (as yet) – no cavities and no major dramas – but my teeth were not perfect. There were no obvious problems – but my dentist said that I am prone to gum disease (at a later stage in my life). And so to prevent this, she recommended me an electric tooth brush. She had made this recommendation during my last visit but I kind of put this advice in the back burner. This time the ‘tough love’ she gave me was really ‘tough’ and so I took action – within two days of my visit to the dentist, I had my own brand new electric tooth brush.

You must be wondering why I am sharing my teeth issues with you all on this blog. But taking good care of your teeth now means saving a whole lot of money later on – and later on is usually towards your retirement age – and that is the age most people don’t have that extra spare money. And so I hope this post helps you make a switch to electric tooth brush and in the process save you a lot of money (and health) !!!

Benefits Of Electric Tooth Brush

1. Recent research done by Dental Association proves that the electric brushes remove 7% more plaque than the manual brushes and electric brushes reduce gingivitis by at least 17%.

2. These figures are significantly more for children and for aged – Kids especially don’t always use the right brushing technique and they also don’t brush for the recommended time – the electric brushes do the work for them (well almost).

The One I Went For

electric tooth brush There are two type of electric tooth brushes – battery operated and rechargeable. You can get a battery operated tooth brush for under 10 dollars. Most dentists recommend the rechargeable electric tooth brushes – cost effective and also work better. Battery operated ones have to be replaced regularly – and so less cost effective. My dentist recommended an Oral B rechargeable tooth brush – she says it is the best – and who am I to argue.

There are few different types of Oral-B electric brushes to choose from. I bought the Professional Care 7400. All Oral B tooth brushes come with a 2 minute timer (this is the optimum time for brushing time). The brush heads are all replaceable – so buy one Oral B tooth brush and use different brush heads for all members of your family (they have colour coded rings for adults and fancy ones for kids). There is another advanced one from Oral B – with all bells and whistles – this one comes with a display screen and there is instant feed back of where you are brushing on this screen, while you are brushing – Quite fancy and good but a bit above my budget.

I am very happy with mine and I spent around 75 dollars for mine (a discount of around 10 because I bought it from my dentist). If you are based in Australia, check out Pharmacy Online for some great deals.

If you are in United States, then Amazon has a huge range and great discounts.

I have been enjoying the shine on my teeth since I got my electric tooth brush. This weekend, I am going to get a couple of cool brush heads for kids and get them into the habit of brushing with an electric tooth brush, early in their lives.
