Last Date For First Home Benefits Approaching…

By FutureNestEgg | May 4, 2009

Just a short post – The last date for first home buyers grant is June 30th 2009. So if you are still on a fence then hurry up – the benefits are huge and don’t let it pass by. The prime minster has already mentioned that the last date will not be extended. Here is my detailed post about the first home benefits that you are entitled to (if you are a first home buyer).

This is inappropriate ‘general advice’. The grant shouldn’t have any bearing on whether a person decides to purchase a home. It could bring the decision forward a month or two or assist helping to buy a more expensive property however as some of the more observant media have pointed out: property prices at the lower end (sub 600k) have been inflated recently, and would be expected to drop by more than the value of the grant once it disappears.

Moral of the story: only buy a house if you were going to buy one anyway. You might not have a job next year, and interest rates are more likely to go up within 12-24 months than down. Assess what you can afford carefully.
