iSelect Review - Part One
By Sandy Naidu | September 29, 2009
Last year, I wrote a post about iSelect, a new service that lets you compare health insurance - it’s not new anymore and a lot has changed on what’s on offer from iSelect.com.au - So it’s time to do a detailed review of what’s on offer. This is a three part review and here are the links to the other two:

What iSelect does is, takes in all your requirements and provides you with a couple or more quotes from insurers who can offer what you are after.
In the process, you will end up with the best insurance for your needs (best in terms of quality and price). |
iSelect & Car Insurance
iSelect now lets you compare car insurance. This is a new service from iSelect. The panel of car insurers and there are no big names (as yet). The participating insurers at the time of writing are:
* Ozicare
* Cashback
* Budget Direct
* 1st For Women
* Heels n Wheels
* Kudos
* ibuyeco
* Retirease Insurance
* Dawes
* Silver Fox
Steps Involved
I used this service, this morning, to get a quote for my car insurance. The process was very simple and easy to use. The website is clean and very straightforward to use. You start with inputting car make, model and year. On the next screen you enter further details about your car - transmission, fuel type, standard & non-standard accessories, alarm details, existing damage etc - most of the tricky questions have drop down boxes for answers, so you can just select your answer rather than typing it - so if you are like me and struggling to figure out what your fuel type is then no worries, there is a drop down with all possible answers and the answers will trigger your memory and help you pick the right answer.
Step 3 is about driver and options - You are asked to select all the additional cover types you need - car replacement, replacement keys after theft etc etc…Then it moves on to your car financing details, your residential address and finally your personal details (date of birth, marital status etc)
On Step 4, you have to enter your email details - your results will be emailed to this address (and this way iSelect has a record of your email address and may correspond with you in the future). And when you click ‘Get my Quote’ on this screen, the results are also displayed on the screen.
The results are well displayed - not confusing - clear and informative. In my case, I got quotes from 7 insurers - and then I have an option to drill down on each quote and compare what is being offered by each insurers. The 7 insurers meet my requirements but the prices will differ. The drilling down helps me to compare the standard and additional benefits - like death benefits, towing costs.
Once you have compared and analysed and decided which one to go with, you can click ‘Apply Now’ and apply for your car insurance online - you also have the option to get some one from the insurance company to call you. I personally prefer the online application method.
Conclusion
Like I mentioned previously, I love the website - it’s all very well formatted and quite simple to use. Like for example, the comparison page for quotes and benefits (the results page) is so easy to read and compare.
I would like to see more insurers on the panel - hopefully things will change on this front in the near future.
All in all, I am very pleased with the service iSelect offers. I also am liking the fact that iSelect has so many promotions going on at the moment - this will increase everyone’s awareness of the fact that if you select the one that meets your needs then insurance is not always expensive.
Having said that, don’t base your decision on iSelect alone - The panel of insurers that they have still small and so use iSelect as your base, look around and then come back to iSelect (if need be).
iSelect is a free service. If you are looking for insurance, whether or not you decide to go with iSelect’s recommendation or not, I strongly urge you to give iSelect a try - you have nothing to lose !!!

I also use a comparison site — http://www.autoquotenow.com, this is just for car insurance but it offers the same function as iselect. I must say, these comparison sites have made selecting the best car insurance company so much easier.

we need is a service that analyses our requirements and based on our needs recommends one or more insurance options. This service is now a reality in Australia and is offered by iSelect. Iselect is an insurance comparison website. You can use it from the comfort of your home. The website is clean and easy to use. The final results are all in plain English - no jargon.
