Working Smarter In 2008
By Sandy Naidu | September 15, 2008
Its around 12:30 in the afternoon and I have already been awake for more than 8 hours today. Almost half of those waking hours have been spent in getting the kids ready, lunches ready, dropping them off and then rushing to the local supermarket to get my weekly shopping done. I usually do my weekly shopping on Mondays because it is less crowded and I am in and out of there as quickly as possible.
It has been a busy few months for me - One of my most important goals for 2008 is to ‘work smarter and not harder’. This year, I have been tracking the performance of all my websites - the aim is to get more out of every website - both financially and performance wise. Every month, I have been analysing where I am at and then tweaking certain things on my websites to make them perform better. This regular monitoring has been one of the main ways in which I have been working towards making my ‘work smarter and not harder’ goal a reality. By monitoring it this way and making changes when necessary, I am getting the best out of my existing websites rather than depending on new websites to increase my revenue - I guess it is the same as ‘looking after your existing clients rather than trying to find new clients all the time’.
By working smarter, I have not cut down on my hours though. In fact I have been longer hours this year than I did last year. But I have no complaints. I am in the ‘building phase’ of my business. This is my first year of working full time in this business. I am loving every second of it. The important thing though is that I am being very mindful of the quality of work accomplished in the hours I put in. Working long unproductive hours is of no use. The aim is to be as productive as I can. This morning I was on a roll - was too excited to sleep - so I woke up, put in a few hours before the kids woke up. When I do start getting a bit tired, I always take a break. Balance is the key and this is the only way we can all be productive.
One of the main things I need to work on is to diversify my income. Most of my income has been coming through two main sources. I am not very comfortable with this. I need to get cracking on diversifying. I will keep you posted on my progress. This is going to keep me busy for a couple of months at least. One more update on my side - Over the weekend I launched a new website. I only have limited content on this site so far - I am working on adding more content. Give me a couple of weeks and I will come back and share the new website information with you all.
